Look at the number of books that have been banned. It's a lot easier to blame forms of entertainment than it is to take a closer look at the real root problems. So what is the root problem? I'll look forward to your next post!

Comment on "The Boss" Still at a Loss as a Leader

Bravo. Finally a portrait of Steinbrenner that illuminates his flaws as a leader. A review of Steinbrenner's history has him in the early years, hiring, firing, re-hiring and re-firing his manager. What does it say about a leader who conducts himself in this manner. These are characteristics of a very poor, weak and misguided leader.<br /><br />Torre is the antithesis of Steinbrenner in his management style. Torre's management style would be successful in any endeavor. The author of the article is correct in his conclusion that Steinbrenner is tired of being second fiddle to the real leader of the Yankees.

Comment on Death of the Sports Role Model?

<P>Thank you for the kind words!&nbsp; Sad but true.&nbsp; We need to perform much more thorough background checks on our "role models" today than&nbsp;was necessary "back in the day!"</P>

Comment on Death of the Sports Role Model?

This was a great blog, Brian. I was thoroughly disgusted when I heard about what Vick had admitted to. I hope he goes down hard for it and that shows people that celebrities are, in fact, responsible for their actions. (I almost choked out my Sifu once, but that was only because he waited too long to tap out...) Seriously, though, the real sports role models are few and far between. Why is this? It's sad. When I was young everybody wanted to be like Mike. Now I look at sports figures and want to be the opposite.

Comment on A Teachable Moment

I agree withyour perspective. From my vantage point in Jamaica, the US TV that I see seems obsessed with making money over a tangled life.

Comment on Another Step Forward

I was really pulling for Eddie as well, but frankly Djimon Hounsou has done some good dramatic films like Amistad. Eddie and I are on a first name basis as well. In fact, ever since Dexter St Jacque, I never let my wife to go Jamaica alone, and she was born there! "What you cryin' 'bout?" Still it's great to see some of our great actors being recognized. Denzel has his. Jamie's got one. The great Morgan Freeman has his. Forrest has his. I'm just waiting on Sam Jackson to get his (still smarting over him not winning it for Pulp Fiction - "Say What? Again, motherf****r"). Eddie, well, has been well documented, comedians just can't get love from the Academy. And despite a strong performance, as Entertainment Weekly said, it didn't exactly help his cause that promos for Norbit are running every five minutes. But the win for Jennifer was terrific. Not just she's one of us, but because of what she represents to all young people who fall short of their dream and keep trying. Her win helped make up for giving a statue to Halle. Though I loved watching her get down an dirty, c'mon? Oscar-caliber? I don't think so.

Comment on I love me some me!

So true, so true!!
